Announcing Education Sector!

New Education Think Tank Launches

Published on January 13, 2006

Please join us on January 31, 2006, for the formal launch of Education Sector and the release of  “Margins of Error: The Education Testing Industry in the No Child Left Behind Era,” by Education Sector Co-Founder Thomas Toch. The event marks the publication of our first major report and will be held at 9:30 a.m., in the Holeman Lounge of the National Press Club. Toch will present the report followed by discussion with experts and stakeholders as well as an opportunity for the audience to ask questions. The event will be moderated by Lynn Olson, senior editor at Education Week.

Education Sector's work is grounded in the belief that education policymaking must be evidence-based rather than ideologically driven. We produce a wide range of solution-oriented products and programming, from books and edited volumes, to op-eds, essays, magazine articles, newsletters, Web logs, list-serves, a lively and innovative Web site, and many different types of public forums.

We have forged relationships with a wide range of experts, policy leaders, and major education organizations, and have a large, prestigious network of non-resident researchers.  Our Board of Directors is comprised of education leaders from around the country. We are completely transparent about our sources of support.

Andrew J. Rotherham and Thomas Toch are the founders and co-directors of Education Sector. Rotherham, 35, is one of the nation's top education policy analysts.  He launched the influential 21st Century Schools Project at the Progressive Policy Institute, was education advisor to President Clinton at the White House, serves on the Virginia Board of Education, and writes Eduwonk.com, a nationally recognized education blog.

Toch, 51, is one of the most highly regarded education writers in the United States.  He has contributed to a wide range of national newspapers and magazines for over two decades and has published two books on education reform—an award-winning body of work that has been praised for its depth, balance and clarity.
