Sara Mead

Sara Mead is a senior research fellow with the New America Foundation, a nonprofit, post-partisan public policy institute. In this role she writes and conducts research on early childhood, elementary, and secondary education. Before joining the New America Foundation in July 2007, Mead was a senior policy analyst with Education Sector, where she worked on issues related to preschool and choice and diversity in public education. Mead has also worked for the Progressive Policy Institute, where she remains a non-resident fellow, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Gore 2000 presidential campaign. She serves on the boards of Democrats for Education Reform and the Appletree Early Learning Public Charter School. Mead's work has been featured in The Washington Post, Newsweek, USA Today, CBS and ABC News, and other outlets. The daughter, granddaughter, and sister of public school educators, Mead holds a bachelor's degree in public policy from Vanderbilt University. She is a proud resident of the District of Columbia.
