Kim Smith
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the NewSchools Venture Fund.
A founding member of Teach For America, Smith became founding director of BAYAC AmeriCorps, a consortium of nonprofits in the San Francisco Bay Area working to develop young leaders in education. She founded NewSchools in 1998 to promote school improvement by using grants, loans and equity investments to support nonprofit and for-profit entrepreneurs who are building sustainable, scalable education ventures. Smith has a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University. She was featured in a 2001 Newsweek's report on the "Women of the 21st Century" as "the kind of woman who will shape America's new century."
