As a research associate, Hinton supports Education Sector's communications team by gathering, summarizing, and synthesizing information on key education policy issues.  He is responsible for collaboratively identifying new audiences for Education Sector's work and assisting with the implementation of the organization's impact strategy.

Prior to joining Education Sector, Hinton held a postgraduate fellowship at the U.S. Department of Education, where he monitored federal higher education programs with the mission of increasing college access and quality. He has previously worked as a college tutor, an academic mentor to students in elementary and middle grades, and a high school math teacher. In 2005, he was a staff intern for U.S. Senator Richard Burr from North Carolina.

Hinton completed his undergraduate degree in mathematics education at North Carolina State University and holds a master's degree in education policy and management from Harvard University. He is a resident of Arlington, Va.
