Internships at Education Sector are substantive in nature, and are integral to our policy, research, and communications teams. Interns are expected to engage in a variety of activities, including collecting and analyzing data, tracking issues and policy developments, writing brief articles for our newsletter and online publications, assisting with media outreach, and planning and helping to run forums and conferences. All interns have the opportunity to participate in weekly Education Sector staff and editorial meetings to discuss issues, strategies, and upcoming projects.
In addition to working directly with our policy and communications staffs, interns benefit from ample opportunities to interact with our national network of leading education researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. We offer interns a variety of professional development opportunities, including participation in policy discussions and opportunities to network and learn about education policy by attending conferences and events in Washington, D.C.
Potential interns should have an interest in and commitment to improving public education, strong writing and analytic skills, good organizational skills and the ability to juggle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work well both independently and with others. A desire to learn and receive constructive feedback to develop skills and knowledge about education policy is essential.
Applying for an Internship: If you are interested in interning with Education Sector, please e-mail a resume and writing sample (2-3 pages) along with a cover letter or e-mail explaining your interest in interning with Education Sector and dates of availability, to hr@educationsector.org (please address your letter to HR and use the subject line: "Internship Application"). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Summer internships are especially competitive, and students interested in this internship should apply early. Students who have the option to intern during the school year are strongly encouraged to do so. We are happy to work with your school to satisfy any requirements for you to receive course credit. Although most internships are unpaid, a limited number of stipends are available for those with financial need.
